I came from Russia. I was born and raised in Moscow. Moscow is a big city with population over 10 mln , unlike Edmonton with population around 1 mln. Life is very different in megapolicies with population over 10 mln and in small cities with population around 1 mln. People often ask me what I like more Moscow or Edmonton, and I honestly don't know what to answer because I just don't know. There are pros and cons in both places. Moscow is a very beautifull city with very active social and cultural life. There are a lot of money in Moscow and a lot of opportunities, but there are a lot of crimes either. Level of street crimes is very high. And it is just too crowdy, traffic is huge and air is very dirty. While in Edmonton air is way more fresh, level of street crimes is much lower and people are much more laid back, but social and cultural life is not active at all.
